Julianne Benfield, 52, Nurse In Westchester

Julianne (Yusi) Benfield of Brewster, a longtime nurse in Westchester, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 52 years old.

Mrs. Benfield was born on Jan. 23, 1965 in Boston, MA, daughter to Ramon and Joyce (Govaars) Yusi. Julianne was a graduate of Dover-Sherborn High School in Sherborn, MA and continued her education at the University of Massachusetts, receiving her bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in management she later continued her education at Cochran School of Nursing to become a registered nurse.

Julianne was a registered nurse in neonatology at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers for 20 years before taking leave due to her illness.

On April 17, 2012 she married Peter Benfield in Brewster, uniting their two families. Julianne was an active parishioner at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church. Her faith in Christ and support from friends and family assisted her through her battle with cancer. Mrs. Benfield was always active, she enjoyed swimming and skiing. She loved to be at the ocean. Julianne’s greatest passion in life was her family. She lived life to the fullest and never gave up.

Mrs. Benfield is not only survived by her parents and her husband but also her 5 children; Ciaran Conway and Caitriona Conway both of Brewster, NY, Heather Benfield of Pittsfield, NH, Connor Benfield of Ithaca, NY and Owen Benfield of Brooklyn, NY, and her brother Michael Yusi of East Hampton, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’ Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’ Toole Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY.
