Saudek was born in 1910 in Dusseldorf, Germany. She grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Wellesley College in 1932. She lived in Warwick, R.I., Pittsburgh and New York City before moving to Bronxville in 1940 with her husband, Robert Saudek.
For the next 43 years, Saudek and her family lived in Bronxville on Willow Circle, Tanglewylde Avenue, Northern Avenue and Plateau Circle. She and her husband raised five children, all of whom attended Bronxville schools.
Saudek was active in many community organizations throughout her years in Bronxville, including serving on the boards of the League of Women Voters, Bronxville School PTA and Planned Parenthood. She also was a member of the Nondescript Club and Little Forum and a tutor at the East Harlem Tutorial Program.
Known as "Betty," she enjoyed a wide circle of Bronxville friends that lasted throughout her life. In 1983, Saudek and her family moved to Washington, D.C. After her husband’s death in 1997, she moved to a retirement home in Bedford, Mass.
Saudek is survived by four children, Richard H. Saudek, of Montpelier, Vt., Robert E. Saudek, of Atlanta, Mary Saudek Jaffee, of Boston, and Stephen L. Saudek, of Lexington Mass.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Christopher D. Saudek.
After decades of involvement in the arts, Saudek and her family created a scholarship fund at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville that contributes to the tuition of promising performing arts students.
