BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Carol Hunter Taylor, a 42-year resident of Bronxville, died Jan. 20 at her home. She was 84.
Taylor was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Port Huron, Mich., to George M. and Cornelia Mather Hunter. After graduating from Port Huron High School in 1946, she moved to Madison, S.D.
She received a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Colorado. She married Arthur G. Taylor on June 6, 1952, in Madison.
Taylor then lived in Fort Sill, Okla., and Charlottesville, Va., where her son was born. In 1957, she moved to Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where her daughters were born.
In 1970, Taylor settled in Bronxville, where she was active at Christ Church. She served as a former director of the altar guild, a member of Women of Christ Church, a past president of the Eliza Frost Day Care Center and a recipient of the Christ Church Medal.
An avid gardener, she was a past president and a longtime member of the Boulder Ledge Garden Club in Bronxville. She also was a fan of theater and a patron of the arts in New York City and London.
She traveled extensively throughout the world and was a member of the Bronxville chapter of American Field Service. She hosted several foreign exchange students and served as a placement officer at the A.F.S. headquarters in New York City for many year. Through A.F.S., she met and adopted Zheng Yang Wen from China.
Taylor and her husband maintained a second home in Brookline, Vt., where she enjoyed gardening. The home was a gathering point for her family, friends and pets, her family said.
She is survived by her husband; three children, George (Ann) Taylor, of Litchfield, Conn., Mary Taylor (Christopher) Behrens and Margaret Taylor (Michael) Conaton, both of Bronxville; her adopted child, Zheng Yang Wen, of Manchester, England; and nine grandchildren.
The rite of burial and Mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Church. Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home in Bronxville is handling arrangements.
