David Rojas, 39, is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, May 31 after pleading guilty to in March to second-degree attempted murder, a violent felony, in connection to a near-fatal stabbing in Greenburgh last year.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., on Nov. 13 last year, Rojas was a passenger in a car that belonged to his victim, a former girlfriend, when he stabbed her 14 times in the abdomen and chest while they were parked on Saw Mill River Road. The woman proceeded to flee the scene, waving to get the attention of other motorists for help, while Rojas drove away in the car, though he circled back multiple times to search for her.

According to Scarpino, a passing motorist, who was a local high school coach, saw the victim and offered an assist, allowing her into his car so she could make an emergency 911 call. Rojas’ victim was then transported to Westchester Medical Center for treatment on stab wounds suffered on her abdomen, chest, leg and hand.

Police tracked down Rojas, who was busted driving his victim’s car in Yonkers shortly after the stabbing. Once he was located, Rojas was interviewed by detectives from the Greenburgh Police Department, when he admitted to stabbing the woman. Rojas later helped direct investigators to the spot where he threw the weapon away.

Following the guilty plea, Rojas was remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due to be sentenced on Thursday, when he will face a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in state prison.
