Yonkers' Alamo Drafthouse Screens 'Banzai' Nov. 13

YONKERS, N.Y. – Westchester's own Billy Vera is coming home Thursday, Nov. 13, for a very special event: a screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers of the 1984 cult favorite "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai," in which he had a small role.

“I look forward to reconnecting with my local fans and a super-fun evening of 'Banzai' madness!” says Vera.

Plans are for Vera to introduce the film, hold a post-screening Q&A session, meet and greet fans and sign autographs.

The film came and went in theaters during the summer of 1984, but has grown to become a cult classic and a touchstone in the careers of cast members Peter Weller, Ellen Barkin, Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd over the last 30 years.

Of course, Vera's career can stand alongside theirs easily. Shortly after the release of the film, Vera scored a Billboard number-one hit with “At This Moment,” used to great effect in an episode of “Family Ties.” He also appeared in other films, and composed and performed the theme to the television comedy “The King Of Queens” and remains an in-demand record producer.

He's considered one of the top voiceover artists in Los Angeles, doing work for top companies like Burger King and Applebee's and appearing in cartoons like “Johnny Bravo” and “Ahh! Real Monsters.” He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well, sponsored by actress Angie Dickinson.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $12. They can be purchased at the Alamo Drafthouse boxoffice, 2548 Central Park Ave. in Yonkers or online at http://drafthouse.com/yonkers
