Wintry Mix Results In Slick Driving Conditions In Westchester County

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A mixed bag of winter precipitation has resulted in slick roads throughout the area during the Monday morning commute, with traffic volume much lighter than normal.

An accident involving an overturned vehicle was reported on the New York State Thruway in Ardsley at 8:30 a.m.

Numerous minor accidents have been reported throughout the area during the morning.

An accident on northbound I-95 between Chatsworth Avenue (Exit 17) and Fenimore Road (Exit 18A) in Larchmont was reported at 8:40 a.m., resulting in stop-and-go traffic.

Icing was reported on the northbound Taconic State Parkway at Route 35/202 in Yorktown Heights at 7 a.m.

An accident was reported on the northbound Merritt Parkway at Route 120A (Exit 27) on the Port Chester-Greenwich, Conn., border at 8 a.m.

The right lane of northbound Route 9 was blocked between Bear Mountain State Parkway and Route 202/Route 6 because of a disabled vehicle in an incident reported at 8 a.m. 

Hail was reported in Yonkers at 8 a.m., with freezing rain and snow falling elsewhere in the county.

 

Metro-North is reporting delays of 10 to 15 minutes on the New Haven Line.

The Westchester County Airport is open, but passengers are encouraged to check on their flights.

Bee-Line bus service is running on or close to schedule.

Most of Westchester is expected to see 1 to 3 inches of snow with 3 to 6 inches possible in areas farther north, including Putnam County. Ice accumulation of a quarter inch or more is possible throughout the county.
