Westchester's Seen Double Than Average Snowfall This Winter

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The winter of 2013-2014 has left more than double the average amount of snow and ice in Westchester County, making daily life a struggle for residents.

According to Current Results Research News & Science Facts, White Plains averages 27.7 inches of snow on 10.7 snow days each winter. Areas of Westchester County gave had anywhere from 55-65 inches of snow already this winter.

Commuter delays, school closures, hazardous roads, parking restrictions, slippery sidewalks and massive piles of snow awaiting milder temperatures have made the winter in Westchester one to remember.

Plowed snow piles as high as 5 and 6 feet high line streets in cities like Yonkers, White Plains and New Rochelle narrowing roadways and making parking difficult if not impossible.

The National Weather Service forecast is calling for warmer temperatures next weekend but not until the area gets one more shot or snow and rain Monday into Tuesday. Warmer weather will help with a melt off but may also bring local flooding.
