Goodell was heavily criticized before the season began when Rice was only suspended for two games when news of his physical dispute with his now wife became public. Goodell and NFL officials responded by instituting stiffer penalties for domestic violence not long after.

When a second, and more graphic video emerged on Monday, showing Rice knocking his wife unconscious, Rice's team responded by terminating his contract. Goodell responded in kind by suspending the New Rochelle native indefinitely, the Daily News reported.

For many, Goodell's response was too little too late, and critics are now calling for his job, the Daily News said.
