WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – A New York Times article highlights the recent coyote sightings and previous attacks in Westchester County and the surrounding areas that are forcing suburbanites to keep their pets inside and worry about the influx of the wild animals.

New Castle residents are trying to figure out what to do about the coyotes that have killed small dogs in the last year, and a couple in Chappaqua believe their miniature golden doodle was taken by a coyote in 2013, according to the report.

In 2010, a 3-year-old girl was bitten in a backyard in Rye and with an estimated 14,500 breeding pairs of coyotes in the state, population control efforts are extremely difficult, reports the New York Times.
