WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Croton-On-Hudson native Richard Pusatere and 32 other people on the El Faro cargo ship are still missing after sending out a distress call when caught in Hurricane Joaquin, according to reports.
The Coast Guard said that it is calling off the search for the cargo ship at sunset Wednesday, lohud.com reported.
Pusatere, 34, is a graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School and SUNY Maritime College. Before the announcement, family and friends said they were clinging to hope, said lohud.com.
Twenty-eight American crew members and five Polish workers were on the 41-year-old ship that departed from Jacksonville, Florida, on Sept. 29, for Puerto Rico, lohud, com said.
