A boil water advisory has been issued for United Water Rate District 1 that will be in effect on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Officials with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection noted that the advisory is a precautionary measure while routine maintenance of its chlorination system. Due to this work, there will be an inadequate disinfection of water, making it a potential hazard.
Nearly 150,000 customers in New Rochelle, Eastchester, Bronxville, Tuckahoe and Pelham will be effected. Locations that sell food must also boil water prior to using it to prepare meals. The advisory does not extend to bathing, laundry or the use of dishwashers.
According to the United Water, “a water boil advisory means that residents in the affected area must boil all tap water at a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute prior to drinking it or using it to prepare food, wash dishes by hand or brush teeth.”
