MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Mount Vernon native Denzel Washington is the latest victim of a Twitter Death Hoax.
The Academy Award-winning actor was reported by Global Associated News to have died in a snowboarding accident at a ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland, while vacationing with family and friends. The "news" outlet claimed "witnesses" saw the actor lose control of his snowboard and slam into a tree.
Though the reports were false, that didn't prevent people on Twitter from believing them to be true. Some responded with anguish, but most didn't believe the story.
Twitter user @TheyEnvy_Renee tweeted, "So Denzel Washington is dead now? OK Twitter. *Wink. Wink*" while @MR_KRAZYINK tweeted "STOP IT! Damn Twitter kills everyone. Lol."
Some like @DesGotThatAhhhh might have believed it was true when she asked, "Bro is denzel Washington dead or not?"
Even so, @ayokennybase summed it up with this tweet: "Denzel Washington is NOT dead!"
