TUCKAHOE, N.Y. -- The Village of Tuckahoe is about to become landlords and add revenue to the village coffers.
Mayor Steve Ecklond announced Tuesday that the Andrus Family Organization will rent the third floor at Village Hall plus an additional 2,500 square feet on the first floor.
"The 10 year lease is valued at $2 million and in addition, the new tenant expects to invest approximately $400,000 into construction improvements to the building," Ecklond said.
The Village Board will hold a special meeting Wednesday evening in order to pass a resolution that will allow Ecklond to sign the lease. The entire third floor at Tuckahoe Village Hall has been vacant since March 2010 and space on the first floor, previously occupied by an accounting firm, has been vacant since March 2008.
The Andrus Family Organization is an 80-year -old non-profit organization that provides child care and family support programs. Ecklond said the organization will offer a range of classes and early childhood enrichment activities.
The organization had operated the Eastchester Childhood Development Center on Bronx Street in Tuckahoe until a fire in December of 2007 forced it to relocate to the Assumption Church.
Ecklond said the new tenants will not only provide stable revenue for the village during the difficult economic times, but it will bring Village Hall back to its role in history.
"I am very pleased to welcome the Andrus Family Organization to our building," Ecklond said. "The community-based children's programs that will be operated in our municipal building, which was formerly the Main Street School, will be a great fit for our community."
