TUCKAHOE, N.Y. A Tuckahoe police officer is back at work after nearly being pinned between two cars on Tusday night. Officer Francisco Ramirez suffered from a bruised right knee after he was struck by a vehicle as he was jumping out of the way from being caught between two vehicles.
Ramirez was taken to Lawrence Hospital where he was treated and released. Ramirez and Sgt. Abelardo Bautista responded to a call made by the Fire Department that a woman was blocking traffic on Main Street at Lake Avenue. When they arrived at the scene, Ramirez went to the rear of the vehicle to direct traffic, while Bautista approached the driver of the vehicle.
Bautista found an incoherant woman sitting cross legged in the front seat of a 2006 Nissan Ultima. As Bautista reached in the car to make sure it was in park, the car began to roll backwards in to the police car behind it, where Ramirez was standing, striking him.
The driver of the car was unresponsive to police questions and had to be identified by her drivers license. Samantha Cataldo, 23, of Yonkers was subsequently charged with DWIA, driving while ability impaired due to drugs, and DWI, driving while intoxicated. She was also issued a ticket to appear in court for damaging village property.
