James Sinclair Welch, 19, the son of the founder of a multimillion-dollar hedge fund, admitted in an affidavit filed with Madison County Court that he was the driver of a Polaris Ranger Crew four-wheel drive vehicle when his passenger, Parker Regan, 19, of Mendham, N.J., fell off and died.
The accident took place Aug. 2 in Montana’s Yellowstone Club, a private ski and golf resort in Madison County. A blood alcohol content test revealed that Welch was driving under the influence on the grounds of the resort, according to the affidavit taken by a Montana State Trooper.
Welch pleaded not guilty in Madison County District Court in Montana in September. The conditions of his bond required him to stay home and wear an ankle monitor, but an order was filled to amend the bond so he could go to school back in November.
The details of the omnibus hearing order, an outline of the case's schedule to the court, will be released on Jan. 28, said a spokesman from the Madison County Attorney's Office.
