Three Generations Born at Lawrence Hospital

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.  – Lorraine Cohen tears up when she speaks of the day her daughter Lauren was born April 16, 1975 at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville.

“I was in Room 404B,” Cohen said Thursday. “The labor and delivery department was very different back then.”

Cohen recounted that tale while cradling her new born grandson Robert Mehran, who was born at Lawrence Hospital on November 28.

But the hospital is also where Cohen was born on May 1, 1946

“My grandson is the third generation to be born at Lawrence Hospital,” Cohen said. “For our family, this is  a tradition.”

Cohen still has a telegram from when her daughter Lauren was born.

“He looks exactly like her,” Cohen said.

New mom Lauren also gets teary eyed when she speaks of her bond with her mother, and hopes her son will be close to her.

“I always could talk to my mom about anything,” Lauren Mehran said. “I hope my son feels the same way about me.”

Mehran said her mom has lots of baby advice, but not all of it is about the baby.

“My mom told me to get up every day, shower and get dressed,” Mehran said. “If you don’t do that right away, you may never get the chance for the rest of the day.”

Lauren Mehran’s aunt, Janie Rubino, works in the hospital gift shop but said she will always be available for babysitting and advice.

Aunt Janie wishes all good things for her neice and great nephew.

“I am as excited about him being born as I was when she was born,” Rubino said. “I am just thrilled for her and, of course, there is already so much love for Robert.

The Mehrans will go home tomorrow and both auntie and grandma will be there to help.

“We will be there but we will also know when it is time to go home and leave my daughter and her husband and baby to be together with her family,” Rubin said.
