'SteamProm' Party Readies To Shake Up Bronxville

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – SteamProm comes to Westchester County this weekend as the PiPE DREAM theatre company brings its music and festive spirit to Bronxville.

On Saturday, July 14, the musical theater company features a Steampunk-themed summer prom bash at the Bronxville Women's Club.

"It's just about having a good time – there is nothing profound about this," said Liz Muller, a member of PiPE DREAM theatre. "This is about getting together, eating good food, drinking, and having a good time. That's why we do it. There's nothing better than being in a room with people who are having a good time."

Muller described the word "Steampunk" as a style combination of "Victorian era, turn-of-the-century, Wild West, World War II and the future." Attendees are encouraged to dress up for the event, but are not obliged.

"You can wear lace and combat boots together," she said. "People wear everything from jeans and a t-shirt to ball gowns. People wear whatever they want. Whatever you want to be, we love it."

PiPE DREAM theatre's band, The Humbugs, will play live tunes from its original musical shows, featuring a compilation of their past and upcoming work. However, the music will not be akin to what fans may have heard in the past. SteamProm's showcased music will be slightly "distorted," and played in a different style than it was originally written.

"It's from our musical theater, but we play it like rock or punk or ska or country," Muller said. "It's all our stuff, but we turn it upside down on its head, and it becomes a fun event for people."

Because the theater describes the music as distorted, the SteamProm gala was originally called "Distorted" during its first two years in existence. Now in its third year, the PiPE DREAM theatre wants to give the celebration a new spin.

The event will be catered by Sheldon Party Services, which is owned by Muller's brother and sister-in-law, Chris Muller and Martha Patierno. There will also be an open bar with beer and wine as well as an ice-cream sundae bar.

The Bronxville Women's Club is located at 135 Midland Ave. The gala begins at 6 p.m. with the live music commencing at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 online or $30 at the door.
