Six-Day Westchester Jazz Festival Marks Third Year

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Jazz fans from all over will be flocking to White Plains as September begins for a week of sultry sound.

The White Plains Jazz Fest is a six-day festival from Saturday, Sept. 2 to Sunday, Sept. 7, held in collaboration between the City of White Plains, ArtsWestchester, and the White Plains BID.

Now in its third year, the event has expanded from three days of performances to a six-day festival that includes Latin, smooth, classic and contemporary styles of jazz.

The festival features performances by accomplished musicians throughout White Plains in a variety of venues. 

It will kick off with an opening reception at Elements Restaurant & Bar, where a $10 cover charge include food and Latin jazz with pianist Gilberto ‘Pulpo’ Colon and his trio.

White Plains Public Library will also be hosting a jazz poetry slam featuring The Duende Project. 

The festival will culminate with the White Plains Jazz and Food Festival on Sept. 7, a block party which will feature Lynette Washington and Dennis Bell Jazz NY, Mark Morganelli Jazz Forum Brazil Project with Monika Oliveira and Eddie Monteiro, two-time Grammy nominee percussionist and bandleader Bobby Sanabria and more.

Tuesday, Sept. 2

Festival Opening Reception: Latin Jazz with Gilberto ‘Pulpo’ Colon at Elements Restaurant from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 3

Jazz Slam with the Duende Project, featuring performance poet Tony Brown at the White Plans Public Library from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 4

Noonday Concert in Renaissance Plaza with the Brian Carter Quartet from noon to 2 p.m.

Alysa Haas Jazz Cabaret, featuring Tedd Firth (piano) and special guest, Joe Luckinbill (guitar) from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 5 

Downtown Music at Grace Church presents Doug Munro & La Pompe Attack from noon to 1 p.m. at Grace Church

The Gerry Malkin Jazz Collective, featuring Scott Wendholt (trumpet) and Jeff Pittson (piano) from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The Blue in Green Project at White Plains Performing Arts Center: A Tribute to Miles Davis with Wali Ali (guitar), Bob Baldwin (piano and keyboard), Ray Blue (saxophone), Harvie S (bass), Antoine Drye (trumpet), and Tony Jefferson (drums).
