EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Live from Eastchester, it's Sunday night with Bobby Moynihan.
Moynihan who is a regular on Saturday Night Live, was born and raised in Eastchester. He is coming home to guest bartend at Mickey Spillane's to raise money for the Bronxville, Eastchester, Tuckahoe Community Fund.
Once a year, the community fund sends out a letter seeking donations and throughout the year it holds fundraisers, like the one Moynihan will attend, which is scheduled for Sunday between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Moynihan, who was a member of the Eastchester Youth Council one of the local organizations supported by the community fund, when he was growing up. He will guest bartend and donate his tips to the organization.
The Bronxville, Eastchester, Tuckahoe Community Fund has been in existence since 1919 and supports 26 local service agencies and programs. The fund has already allocated a $489,200 budget for the 2011-12 year.
"It's local families supporting local needs," said Gayle Haller, the groups president. "It's a frail 82-year-old who gets an escort to her doctor's office, a working mom getting help with daycare for her children."
Bronxville resident Johanna Curran attended the Bronxville Village Board meeting Monday night to speak about the help she received from the community fund
"I am very shy and nervous," Curran told the board. "But I have to tell you that when I have a problem I always go to Gramatan Village," a nonprofit organization that provides information and access to services to seniors so they can remain living at home. "My children live far away and I did not know what to do when my roof started leaking," Curran told the Bronxville Village Board, Curran said.
Curran said that one contractor told her she needed a new roof, but she had replaced her roof a few years earlier. But Curran went to Gramatan Village and found out, I only needed a repair that cost $200," she said.
