Quigley Has Sole Tuckahoe Democratic Nod

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – Incumbent Trustee Steve Quigley was the sole nominee for one of two seats on the Tuckahoe Village Board.  The Tuckahoe Democratic Committee held its nominating caucus Tuesday night, where Quigley received the party nod.

Party chairperson Chris DiGiorgio gave high marks to Quigley.

"He brings legal expertise to the board and he is objective, experienced and just a great asset," DiGeorgio said.

DiGiorgio said he could not find a second candidate to run on the ticket.

"No one was willing or ready to run at this time," he said.

Village trustees serve a two-year term and receive a stipend of roughly $5,000 for their services.

But Quigley said he’s excited to return to the board.

"It's still a tricky issue, but I would like to look into ways to share services, especially within the town," Quigley said. "I want to be able to keep the same level of services and keep the costs down."

Quigley said residents have come to depend on the village for a certain level of services and he feels they should not be disappointed.

The Tuckahoe Republican Committee announced Monday it also has one candidate, incumbent Trustee Janette Hayes on its ticket .

With both Hayes and Quigley running without challengers, their tenure on the board will likely continue.

Quigley said he feels the fact that no other candidate stepped in to run for either party is a reflection of sorts that residents are happy with the job the board, as a whole, is doing.

Quigley said he is happy to be the sole Democrat on the board.

"Everything works better when there is a mix," Quigley said. "And we have a great mix on our board."

The village will hold elections March 20.
