Lauro and Martabano were among 50 inductees from across the state to receive the honor. Both were recognized for their significant contributions to the instructional technology field, particularly their work with the LHRIC’s 62 component school districts in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties.
Linda Brandon, manager of instructional technology for the Lakeland Central School District, which the LHRIC partners with on an ongoing basis, was also a recipient of the award.
Recipients are inducted into the Hall of Fame because of their outstanding contributions to NYSCATE, for authoring publications that benefit the organization, serving as leaders to the education community at large and much more.
Martabano also received the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) Make It Happen Award, which is given to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, leadership, courage and persistence in improving digital learning opportunities for students.
As a leader for the Harrison-based Regional Information Center, together with her prior work as a district advocate for technology in the classroom, Martabano’s life’s work has been in advancement of student learning through the integration of technology, she explained.
“Receiving both the ISTE and the NYSCATE Hall of Fame awards was one of the more humbling experiences of my career,” said Martabano. “This award represents the thousands upon thousands of students, teachers and school administrators I’ve worked with who have made an impact on teaching and learning with their vision, ability to take risks and overall belief in the power of technology in our quest to improve teaching and learning.”
