MSC $uper$aver Saves You Money When You Shop

There’s a new option for savings in your town.

Main Street Connect, the publisher of this site, is joining with merchants to offer readers digital coupons for saving money when they shop at local businesses.

“In this era of technology, everyone wants to be able to go online and find what they want,” says Leslie Allicks, owner of Lola’s Tea House in Pelham. She is one of the first local merchants to take part in MSC$uper$aver.

Beth Feldman’s Larchmont cafe, Sweet & Social, is only a few months old. To help grow her restaurant, she is also taking advantage of the MSC$uper$aver section.

“In terms of the customers, we know they are going online and looking for incentives. We want to give them some,” Feldman said. She prefers the digital options and more traditional print coupons.

Allicks is interested in seeing how her customers take to coupons. She thinks the digital format is appealing and the setup is easier to manage than some other options.

MSC$uper$aver works by offering readers on Main Street Connect’s news sites, such as this one, the opportunity to download and print coupons to be redeemed at local businesses. In some cases, coupons have a black and white maze-like QR code in the corner. Those coupons can be downloaded to a cell phone and shown to the merchant, who can scan the code to give the discount.

Feldman and Allicks are asking patrons to bring in a print out of the physical coupon for now. Feldman explained that the scanning equipment can be a little expensive for a starting business. When she worked with another online coupon group, she could use her cell phone to scan their codes, but that created issues when she had to step out.

There is no cost to take advantage of a MSC$uper$aver coupon nor are there restrictions for the merchants. Feldman noted that Groupon required her to offer at least 50 percent off on a purchase and then required customers to buy the coupon from them. On top of that, the profits of the coupon were split with Feldman.

“So we only saw about a quarter of what we otherwise would have,” she says.

For now, MSC$uper$aver is only available on the sites for Eastchester, Bronxville, Harrison,Port Chester, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, Pelham, Scarsdaleand Rye. Main Street Connect plans to add more towns to MSC$uper$aver in the near future.
