Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis joined a myriad of local officials, medical professionals and business owners that packed the medical center’s new office to tour the new location.
With the opening of the Mount Vernon location, Lawrence Medical Associates, which was founded just five years ago, now has a dozen medical practice locations in Southern Westchester County.
While the space is new, several of the doctors have been practicing in Mount Vernon for decades, so they are familiar with the community and its residents.
“We’re right in the middle of town, and there’s no steps to climb to get in, so it’s more accessible for patients. We’ve been getting a lot more walk-ins,” Dr. Valneo Buttari, who practiced medicine in Mount Vernon for 15 years before switching to Lawrence. “It’s good to have everyone and everything under one roof.
The Gramatan office features four consult rooms, eight exam rooms and a pair of small labs for testing. Dr. Susan Santry -- who practiced out of a private Mount Vernon office on East Lincoln Avenue for three decades -- said that having a medical office affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian and Lawrence Hospital is invaluable for the community.
“It’s been very easy to get used to the new equipment and office. Being associated through Lawrence is huge,” she said. “If something happens that is imminent, we have to drive 15 minutes down the road (to the Bronxville hospital). It’s the shortest ride ever.”
Although they’ve only been practicing medicine in Mount Vernon for a month, Lawrence Medical Associates is already poised to rapidly expand, with a plan that will more than double the size of the 2,800-square-foot office by mid-November.
Phase two of its plan is already under way, and by mid-November, the 2,800-square-foot office will more than double its size to 6,100-square-feet after taking over two adjacent storefronts.
When the second phase is finished, the office will measure at approximately 6,100-square-feet, and as many as six new physicians will be brought on board.
“We will have doctors with multiple specialties that we will be able to refer right down the hall,” Buttari added. “It’ll be convenient to have all those specialties under one roof. It’ll be like one-stop shopping for patients.”
