Lowey Supports Clinton's Rollout of Caregiver Policy Proposals

New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey, a longtime supporter of caregivers and the elderly, said she agrees with presidential candidate Secretary Hillary Clinton’s new policies that would provide supports to millions of caregivers.

Clinton announced the proposals to address the unsustainable financial threat to millions of American caregivers on Wednesday, Nov. 25 in Iowa.

Lowey, who introduced the Social Security Caregiver Credit Act to help unpaid caregivers earn credit toward Social Security retirement calculations, said: "I look forward to working with Secretary Clinton when she's President to help provide more financial security for hard-working caregivers, including through my legislation, the Social Security Caregiver Credit Act, which mirrors a portion of her proposal today in Iowa.

"With more than 60 million caregivers in the United States providing invaluable care to family members, too many Americans face the choice of earning a paycheck and saving for retirement or caring for a loved one. In addition, many paid caregivers lack adequate pay and workplace rights.

"These challenges for the middle class will only grow as our population ages, and women, who make up 66 percent of unpaid caregivers, are disproportionately affected. Support for caregivers is just one more way Hillary is fighting for all of us."
