Local Fashionistas Shop for Back to School

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – Do you know what Flow Society Shorts are? How about a Shake it Up headband? Your kids could probably tell you or you can ask Paul Fetonti, the manager at Epstein's Dry Goods store on Columbus Avenue in Tuckahoe.

"The shorts are very popular this year," Fetonti said. "So are these hooded sweatshirts where there is a facemask as part of the hood."

Flow society shorts are bright, multi-colored lacrosse practice shorts, which are all the rage, according Fetonti. The head bands are modeled after a popular television show.

Camryn DiConstanzo, 9, who will be a fourth grader at Anne Hutch Elementary School on Tuesday, and her big sister Jordyn, 14, a freshman at Eastchester High School were willing to share their favorite back to school looks while shopping with their mom at Epstein's store.

Camryn modeled one of her favorite new outfits, including a Peace Love Music shirt, paired with a pair of dark washed skinny jeans.

Remember the peace sign? Camryn paired a dark hooded sweatshirt, with a rhinestone peace sign on the back, with dark jeans and a dark t-shirt. The shirt had an electric blue pop, which our fashion expert matched with a similar blue bow headband.

"She is definitely an evolving fashionista," said her mom, Tracy, about Camryn. "She watches shows for kids her age and decides what she likes and then wants us to go shopping."

Tracy lent a hand selecting basic jeans in dark colors, and simple, bright colored t-shirts, easy to mix and match.

"I try to get her what she likes within reason, but it has to be practical and appropriate," Tracy said.

Tracy said that big sister Jordyn is a good role model for Camryn.

"She has a style that is uniquely hers," Tracy said of Jordyn. "She wears what suits her. One day it can be something very popular, and the next day, she will take that item everyone else has and not wear it anymore."

One thing both DiCosntanzo girls agree on is accessories.

"They both love earrings and bracelets,” Tracy said. “Jordyn wears feather earrings, Camryn would wear them if I let her, but I don't."

One of the most sought out back to school item for kids is the backpack.

"Camyrn had to have an Ed Hardy back-pack and I said yes within reason," Tracy said. "She wanted a plain black one with a tigers head, which I said was fine, but I had to go all over to find it."

Now that most of the school shopping is done, do the girls know what they will wear on that all important first day?

"I am still deciding," said our expert Camryn.
