EASTCHESTER, N.Y. The five swimming pools at Lake Isle will be back up and running Wednesday with no thanks to Hurricane Irene. The pools were one of the few spots in Eastchester where there was no electricity because of the storm.
Assistant General Manager Jay Maxwell said that power was restored on Tuesday afternoon, but the pools remained closed so that a special filtration process could be done.
"We wanted to be sure everything would be safe, so we are going to take the extra time for this process to be completed," Maxwell said.
The 116-acre park had no damage due to the rain, but lost power sometime after 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon during high winds.
On Tuesday morning Maxwell said most of the park had power, with a notable exception.
Tennis was good, golf was good and we had the senior center up and running,Maxell said. We just had to get the pools running.
Maxwell said that because Con Edison had not given them a timetable to get power to the pools, the town brought in its own electricians.
We were ready to do anything we had to to get the pools up and running for the last weekend of the summer, Maxwell said.
