BUCHANAN, N.Y. – Indian Point Unit 3 was returned to service Thursday afternoon, after it was powered down early Wednesday morning to troubleshoot the discovery of combustible gases found in the oil of an auxiliary transformer.

During a routine check of a transformer on site, combustible gases were found in the oil of the transformer. Indian Point Unit 3 was returned to service, but the transformer is not in use.

Prior to being powered down to look into the cause of the transformer malfunction, Indian Point Unit 3 operated for 327 continuous days. Indian Point Unit 2 has been online for 44 days, after a Jan. 10 coolant pump repair shut the plant down for nine days.
