Hayes Sole Candidate on Tuckahoe Republican Ticket

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – An incumbent Tuckahoe Trustee will be the sole candidate on the Republican ticket for one of two available seats on the Tuckahoe Village Board.  Janette Hayes accepted the support of the Republicans and the Conservatives Monday night at both nominating caucuses.

But Tuckahoe Republican Committee Chair Larry Marciano said the committee had no other candidates interested in running for the seat currently held by Democrat Steve Quigley.

"No one else had shown an interest in running," Marciano said. "It's a job that needs to be done right and requires a lot of time."

Tuckahoe Village Trustees receive a stipend of roughly $5,000 per year and serve for a two-year term.

Hayes was appointed to the board in May 2011 and has said that she has taken great pride in preparing and distributing two editions of a village-wide newsletter that she created since her appointment.

"We are very fortunate to have her," Marciano said. "She works extremely hard and never walks away from a job."

Hayes said that if she is returned to the board she plans on moving forward and expanding several projects.

But her favorite project in her short time on the board is the creation of a forum for residents of condo and co-op associations, as well as boards and residential building owners and managers.

"We get together and share ideas and information," Hayes said.

This will be Hayes' first run for elected office. She will not know until Tuesday night if she will face a challenger after the Democratic Committee holds its nominating caucus.

Either way Hayes said she is committed to working hard for Tuckahoe.

"Above all, I look forward to continuing to work hard on behalf of the residents of Tuckahoe," she said.
