George Sohr, 95, Former Bronxville Mail Carrier

YONKERS, N.Y. – George Alfred Sohr, a longtime Yonkers resident, died June 10 at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. He was 95. 

He was born April 21, 1917 in Yonkers to Frederick C. and Dorothy Matusak Sohr. He served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II, from July of 1941 to May of 1945. 

Sohr worked as a letter carrier and parcel postman for the Bronxville Post Office until retiring in 1973. He was married to Barbara Sohr. Sohr lived in Ohio, Florida and Bel Air, Md., before returning to Yonkers. 

His wife died in 1977.

Sohr is survived by two nephews, two nieces as well as 11 grandnieces and grandnephews and 17 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Barbara Tice; a sister, Dorothy; and two brothers, Frederick and Edward Sohr. 

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Flynn Memorial Home in Yonkers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
