Garden Avenue Lot Construction Nearing Completion In Bronxville

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – In an effort to limit the inconvenience for shoppers and merchants alike, village officials in Bronxville have expedited the final improvements on the Garden Avenue lot to get it fully open sooner.

Long-awaited improvements on the lot began in July, leaving a bulk of the parking spaces unavailable for the better part of the summer. The drainage improvement project was designed to improve the quality of drinking water in the village.

According to village officials, “to minimize the inconvenience to our parkers, the milling and paving (of the lot) will be done in two phases.” The two rows of public parking closest to Pondfield Road will be milled on Friday, Sept. 5, and paved on Saturday.

The three rows of merchant parking closer to Garden Avenue will be milled on Monday, Sept. 8, and paved the following day. Parking enforcement has been suspended until the project is complete.

Throughout the project, merchants with a basic merchant permit have had to feed the meters as usual, although those with a buyout permit did not. The 12-hour meters run 50 cents per hour on weekdays and one dollar per hour on weekends.

When the project was announced, Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin noted that the project was paid almost entirely through a grant. Improvements include under pavement water storage chambers and permeable pavement, which capture and treat storm water runoff, reducing the risk of flooding and separating toxins from the runoff.
