The association is seeking athletes of all experience levels to fill their travel teams and recreational leagues. Children between the ages of 5 and 15 years old who call Bronxville, Eastchester or Tuckahoe home are eligible to register.
Recently, the association was celebrated nationally with President Obama’s Volunteer Service Award for its work in the community. In a letter bearing his signature, the 44th president praised the volunteers for their hard work.
“Our nation faces the most challenging economic crisis in a lifetime. We will only renew America if we all work together,” he wrote. “Your volunteer service demonstrates the kind of commitment to your community that moves America a step closer to its great promise.”
Parents can register their children online for the fall and spring recreation league at a price of $170 per child. A copy of a scanned birth certificate is required for new players born in 2008 and 2009 must be sent to esoccer@verizon.net. The association was founded from meager roots nearly 40 years ago by soccer enthusiast Carmine Piscreta, who immigrated to the area from Italy. The organization started with a bag of just eight soccer balls, but now more than 1,500 players and 100 teams participate in the program.
There will be a meeting of the Eastchester Soccer Club at 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Tuckahoe Community Center. The parent organization meets once a month at that time on the first Tuesday of every month.
