Board members and Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita unanimously agreed to reappoint the members of six committees, and appointed five residents to the new Environmental Committee; they will serve two-year terms.

“It would be nice to speak of each member of each one of these committees. We genuinely appreciate the time they spend away from their families and jobs to work for the people of Eastchester,” Colavita said. “These aren’t honorary. These are working positions.”

Keith Bloomfield was designated as chairperson for the Cable Television Advisory Committee, which is responsible for all cable-related decisions in town. Susan Rappaport, former chairperson of that committee, was named to the same role in the Committee for the Disabled.

Eastchester Police Lt. Robert Jensen will lead the Hazard Mitigation Committee, and Joseph Cermele will head the Planning Board until Dec. 31, 2017. The Board of Electrical Control and Lake Isle Long Range Planning Committee remain unchanged.

Councilperson Fred Salanitro expressed his appreciation to those who volunteered to fill the town positions.

“We want to thank everyone that has stepped up,” he said. “They are invaluable to us and to our town.”

Colavita echoed Salanitro’s words, and said the committees fill an invaluable role in Eastchester.

“These people all play an active role in the town government. They each have input in the direction of the town and enhance the town greatly,” Colavita said. “We appreciate them taking the time to work for the town of Eastchester. It’s not an easy thing to do, especially when you’re criticized often. They do it because they love the town and have a great spirit of volunteerism.”
