Eastchester Father Reportedly Waives Hearing In Crash To Protect Daughter

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- An Eastchester father whose 15-year-old daughter was charged in a Pennsylvania automobile accident that killed three teenage boys agreed this week to waive an evidentiary hearing in the case so the teen would not have to testify, according to a report on LoHud.com.

Michael Ware, 53, faces felony charges for letting his unlicensed daughter drive his vehicle, a Chevrolet Suburban, on Aug. 30 in Paupack Township in the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania. Ware owns a vacation home in the Poconos.

Three 15-year-old boys from Bucks County, Pa. died in the accident. The girl faces charges but they are not public because her case is in juvenile court. Wayne County District Attorney Janine Edwards is using the girl as a witness in the case.

Robert Reno, Ware's lawyer, said the girl, who lives in Pleasantville, was "traumatized" by the accident and there is concern about "repercussions" if she testified for the district attorney in the preliminary hearing.

According to reports, the accident was not the first time Ware knowingly allowed his unlicensed daughter to use his vehicle, even putting in an order for a breakfast sandwich in the morning before the fatal crash that took the lives of Pennsylvania natives Cullen Keffer, Shamus Digney and Ryan Lesher and left Ryan Keim seriously injured.

The teenager was speeding down a hill about a mile from the vacation home before taking a curve too rough and losing control of the truck, which flipped several times before coming to a stop on its side.
