Construction of Eastchester Tennis Bubble on Time

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Construction on the long-awaited tennis bubble at Lake Isle is well underway, said assistant general manager Jay Maxwell on Wednesday.

"The weather has been cooperating and we are all set for the bubbles to be ready for use on schedule," Maxwell said.

The bubble is actually three bubbles covering all eight tennis courts at Lake Isle. There will also be a newly constructed 5,000 square foot clubhouse which features spots where each of the courts can be viewed.

Maxwell said the while the club uses the courts from the opening in May through the fall, the courts remain unused during the winter months.

That was the case until the Eastchester Town Board brokered a deal with Sport Time to use the courts during the club's off season.

Sport Time is reportedly sinking $2 million into the project, which will erect the portable bubbles in the winter and then take them down in time for the summer. The company, which was not able to be reached for comment on the project, will also pay the town rent for use of the courts.

Maxwell said the construction process will not interrupt the tennis schedule for the spring and summer.

"We expect to be running on schedule, and have the bubble ready for use in Fall 2012 as planned," Maxwell said.
