The men’s basketball team also ran in support of Eli, a 7-year-old boy, who was diagnosed in February 2013 with pediatric blood cancer. The bond between Eli and the Concordia Clippers was fostered last year by Team IMPACT.
“We are running because our relationship with Eli and his family is very special to us,” said Brian Sondey, head coach of the Concordia Clippers. “Our team was excited to see what we could achieve at the inaugural Bronxville Road Race for the Children’s Brain Tumor Project. Regardless of what our individual results may be, we are proud to be a part of this event to run in support of Eli, Team IMPACT, and the Children’s Brain Tumor Project.” The cross-country program also attended in support of the cause.
“It was a very nice race for a great cause,” said Laura Brezovsky, head coach of the cross-country program. “I am happy that we were able to participate in it. A special thanks to President Viji George and (his daughter) Emilie George for supporting us to participate in this race.” The Children’s Brain Tumor Project focuses on the research and treatment of rare brain tumors affecting children and young adults. The CBTP was founded, in part, with the support of Elizabeth Minter, a graduate of Bronxville High School and her family. Minter was diagnosed with gliomatosis cerebri in 2010 and died in 2012.
The Children’s Brain Tumor Project is based at the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center in New York City.
