Cain, a senior at Bronxville High School who recently announced she will turn professional after graduation, rocketed to international acclaim when she competed in the finals of the 1500-meter race at the track and field world championships in Moscow this summer.
She will be one of only three teenagers competing among some of the best 800-meter runners in the world. Several are expected to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Cain set junior records in the 800, 1,500 and mile during the outdoor season this year. She set records in the indoor season as well in the 1,500, 3,000 and two-mile. Some track and field observers believe she could be the most accomplished middle distance runner in the United States as her career unfolds.
