More than 350 meals and supplemental food were distributed to the homeless.

Honoring the school’s dedication to serving others, this schoolwide effort involved children from the kindergarten through eighth grade by donating items and assembling bags of food. Each grade was responsible for collecting certain food items.

The eighth-grade students assembled the meals that morning during their study hall.

“Since we are blessed with more than we need, it is our responsibility to share with those less fortunate,” said Kate Marino.

Clothing, blankets and toiletry kits were also given to those in need.

“My dentist donated a gross (144) of pre-pasted toothbrushes,” said teacher Lynn McAloon.

The bagged meals were then brought to the city and distributed by Chapel School faculty and staff, at designated stops to those currently living on the street.

The giving spirit gave many people a healthy meal and a moment of friendship.

Kim Rapillo, secretary at Village Lutheran Church, participates every year. “Going on these runs puts life into perspective," Rapillo said.

“There is so much we all take for granted. It really opens your eyes when you realize how much of a difference just a small sandwich can make.”

The Chapel School faculty and staff were able to witness firsthand the struggles some people face. The appreciation for the small meal deeply moved the staff.

The school has adopted these “runs” into New York as a biannual event, occurring in October and April every year.
