Bronxville Volunteer and Scholar to Be Remembered

BRONXVILLE,N.Y. -- Susan H. Vojta, born August 15, 1935, died peacefully on August 6, 2011. She is survived by her sons Christopher and Timothy, grandchildren George II, Charles and Grace, and daughters-in-law Deneen and Amber. She was married to George J. Vojta for 53 years until his passing in December 2010.

Vojta received her Bachelor of Arts from Pembroke College in Brown University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and Masters in Arts from Yale University. She also conducted advanced study in history and Asian art history at Columbia University and Manhattan College.

She was a passionate art historian, teacher and leader in the community. Her work experience included Chair of the History Departments at high schools in New Haven, Conn., Manila and Singapore as well as Chairman of the Committee for the Tokyo Annual Print Show.

Later, she served as a docent for Major Asian art exhibitions at The Asia Society in New York City, Member of the Art Advisory Committee for Brown University, Chairman and Member of the Board for the Maxwell Institute, Chairman of the Friends of the Sarah Lawrence Library.

Previously, she had served as Chairman of the Bronxville High School Council, Member of the Board of Family and Community Services, the Bronxville Adult School, the Bronxville Parent Teacher Association and the Adoption Service.

Vojta was a beloved mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her generous and compassionate nature, and the friendships she made and held dear across the entire globe.

Memorial services will be held at the Reformed Church in Bronxville on August 13, 2011 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Lawrence Hospital Cancer Center at 55 Palmer Avenue, Bronxville, N.Y.
