BRONXVILLE N.Y. The great Charlie Brown once said, "There is nothing like a warm puppy," but he offered no comment on a wet puppy.
Steve Singer, of Provisions for Pets on Kraft Avenue in Bronxville, has a lot to say on that subject.
"There is nothing like a Soggy Doggy Doormat for a wet puppy," Singer remarked recently.
Singer has a store chock full of cool stuff for pets, including the doggy doormat and towel that absorbs five times its weight in water, is soft, fluffy and washable.
You could give your dog a whole wheat bone that is made with chicken livers and has a carob or yogurt coating and has cute sayings such as "top dog."
For the practical-minded you can clip the Poopie Bag carrier to your dogs leash so you don't have to scout around for that all-important bag to scoop poop with.
Singer, who retired from his day job more than a decade ago, has owned his shop for a dozen years and boasts friendships with some of the top dogs in the village.
To that end, he carries about 20 different kinds of dog food, including Evo, Pinnacle and Holistic Seal, just to name a few. He sells kitty cuisine, such as Tiki, Solid Gold and Stella and Chewy, the new favorite of a certain cat, who wishes to remain nameless.
If you want to introduce your cat to politics, Singer has a stuffed George Bush, filled with catnip.
"I used to have the Clintons, both Bill and Hillary," he said. "I sold out of them."
Singer carries handmade stuffed mice for that special feline and crazy socks, which are filled with catnip and feathers.
He also stocks the practical items, such as crates, cat litter, leashes and a hollowed-out treat for cats and dogs that can be used to hide medication.
Singer promises low prices and personalized attention.
"I invite anyone to compare prices with any of the big stores," he said. "You will get more for your money and my attention, too."
