BRONXVILLE, N.Y. With the recent announcement of a pending lawsuit between popular Bronxville Library Director Laura Eckley against the Village of Bronxville, the Library Board may have more residents than usual at their monthly meeting Wednesday night.
The library is governed by a Board of Trustees eight village residents who are not paid a salary.
Each member is appointed by the Village Board, and the Mayor for a term of three years. Currently the board members are President Karen Mullen, Joe Peddy who serves as Vice President, and Rosanne Welshimer who serves as Secretary. The remaining board members are Sean Abbot, Karen Falk, Mary Mackintosh, Sarah Underhil and Chris Zufelt.
Bronxville Village Board member Anne Poorman serves as the liaison between the Village Board and the Library Board.
While there is a line item in the annual village budget for the library, that is where the involvement of elected Bronxville officials and village staff and administrators ends.
The Library Board is solely responsible for the library's finances. The Library Board also sets policies for the library and plans for the library's future.
In addition to the Library Board, there an organization called Friends of the Library.
The Friends of the Library main mission is to support programs at the library. They have no role in setting or executing the budget or determining policy. The group collects and contributes funding for children's programs and events, author visits films and other activities and events.
The Library Board will meet in the Yaegar Room at the library at 7 pm Wednesday.
