Bronxville Chamber To Host Public Pay-By-Phone Parking Forum With Pango

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Officials from Pango - the company tasked with bringing pay-by-phone parking to Bronxville - will be taking a special trip to the village next week to discuss the merits and improvements their technology will bring to the village.

In an effort to encourage more space turnover to increase local retail business, the village is taking strides to “make meters more understandable, customer friendly and technologically advanced (while) adding a level of uniformity and consistency to the entire parking matrix,” according to Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin.

In August, the village entered an agreement with Pango, company that created a system that allows motorists to park and pay using their cell phones. Pango eliminates the need for parking machines, the need to rifle through vehicles for loose change, and can be customized and adjusted to fit one’s need.

Marvin said that they studied several options as they get set to update parking in the village, including a credit card swipe system that would have required the reconfiguration of more than 1,000 meters.

“After a thorough analysis of the competing providers, we chose Pango because of their competitive pricing, user friendly application, and the fact that they invented many of the app’s innovations and hold their patents,” she stated. “Pango allows us to take advantage of state-of-the-art technology with minimal capital outlay.”

Additionally, on-street meter enforcement will now continue until 9 p.m., an hour later, because “after intensive observation, (officials) noticed that cars in front of the theater, restaurants and businesses were utilizing the free evening parking, but not frequenting village establishments.” The anticipated revenue generated as a result of this measure is expected to result in a lowering of village taxes by nearly 1 percent.

“We listened to our merchants, doctors and restaurateurs, whose clientele often require longer increments of time than are currently available,” Marvin noted. “As a result, we have increased the number of spaces that allow stays of three and four hours in the Cedar Street and Garden Avenue parking lots.”

In an effort to ease the transition, the Chamber of Commerce is hosting a meeting that is open to the public, allowing Pango officials to discuss the merits of their system. The forum will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Bronxville Village Hall.

“The primary purpose of the forum is to hear from a guest speaker from Pango, the company whose pay-by-phone parking system will soon be launched in Bronxville,” the Chamber offered in a joint statement. “All businesses with a location in Bronxville are urged to attend so you can stay a step ahead of customers on this important development.”
