BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- A career criminal may face additional charges after being caught with what police said was a stolen credit card and illegal drugs.
Melvin L. Wright, of the Bronx was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a Class E felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Dec. 26, a man entered the Bronxville Police Department and reported that a window on his car, parked on Paxton Avenue, had been broken. The man said he noticed the damage at 6:35 p.m. but went to see a movie. When the movie was over he came and reported the damage to police.
The victim gave a description of the man and said he saw two police officers speaking to a man that he had observed earlier in the evening leaning against his car.
Police interviewed Wright and took him into custody when he was found to be in possession of a bank ATM card that had been reported stolen from another damaged vehicle earlier that same evening.
Wright was arraigned in Bronxville court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due back in Village Court on Jan 4.
