At Wednesday's U2 concert at Madison Square Garden, lead singer Bono thanked Lowey for her help in fighting the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus in Africa before performing "Where The Streets Have No Name."

Scarlett Johansson, Rick Santorum and Alicia Keys were also singled out by the singer for their help in fighting the virus.

“I have been partnering with Bono for more than a decade to battle the global AIDS epidemic, and I’m glad that his commitment to fighting deadly and infectious diseases remains stronger than ever," Lowey said.

Lowey said improving health outcomes in developing countries helps local economies and builds stable communities while bolstering American national security and the security of developing nations.

"As Bono uses the stage to amplify this important message, I will continue working as Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations to invest in global health initiatives that result in long-term global stability," Lowey said.
