EASTCHESTER, N.Y. For third graders in Clare Davidian' s class at Anne Hutchinson school in Eastchester, it's not just the sliced turkey and popcorn that made their Thanksgiving celebration special. It's sharing that feast with fifth graders from Raymond Lillis' class.
"It allows the older kids to role model and nurture the youngers kids, and it lets the younger kids feel that they have someone looking out for them," Lillis said.
Lillis said this is the third time the kids have joined together for an activity or celebration. Since they met in September, each child was paired up with a buddy. They had to interview each other and write biographies about one another they could get to know each other.
This is the third year that Lillis has done this program with Davidian.
"The whole exercise also gives the younger students someone to talk to if they are stuggling with any kind of issue," Lillis said.
But on Tuesday, as the students came to Mr. Lillis' class they were clearly not thinking about anything but turkey, corn muffins and homemade cranberry sauce.
