There was no information on the person or why they were on the tracks when the accident occurred, said spokesman Aaron Donovan.

The train involved in the fatal accident was the 9 a.m. Amtrak train from Washington, D.C., bound to arrive in Boston at 3:42 p.m.

Police were on the scene investigating, Donovan said.

Metro-North's service on the New Haven Line was suspended between New Haven and Bridgeport in both directions, he said. Amtrak service was stopped as well.

Some delays were reported between Bridgeport and Stamford, but service was normal to Grand Central Terminal, he said.

It was not clear when train service would be restored Friday afternoon.

It was the second fatal accident of the day on the tracks in Connecticut.

A person was hit and killed on the tracks by a Boston-bound Amtrak Acela train just west of the Guilford East station at about 8:25 a.m. Friday. No details were released on the victim's identity, age, gender or hometown or why they were on the tracks.

The accident halted all Amtrak and Shoreline East train service through the area for about two hours.

The accident occurred near the track intersection with New Quarry Road near the town line with Branford.
