A Pool Mobile in Bronxville

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Just in time for the hot and humid weather, a grey Honda CRV moved at around 20 mph on Midland Avenue in Bronxville on Monday, emergency lights blinking, six other cars trailing behind it. A blue inflatable swimming pool wobbled on its roof, secured to nothing but the driver's left hand.

That's how Annette Dockrell, 63, drove for 0.3 miles to her house at Midland Avenue, after getting the swimming pool inflated at the Mobil gas station on Marbledale Road.

"I had to hold it all the way up," she said with a Scottish accent, despite the 39 years she has been living in Bronxville.

The swimming pool was for her two granddaughters, Natalie, 6, and Emilia Odgen, 4, who will arrive on Sunday from Atlanta to spend the summer.

With the help of her husband Eddie, she gladly carried the swimming pool upstairs and inside the house.
