BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Young parishioners from Eastchester, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle and Scarsdale traveled to Texas under the auspices of the Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville, for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Youth Gathering.
The Missouri Synod Youth Gathering is held every three years, bringing more than 20,000 young Lutherans to one place to celebrate worship, service and fellowship.
The Rev. Robert Hartwell, senior pastor of the Village Lutheran Church, said that the gathering gives local worshipers to see that their faith extends to all reaches of the country and world.
“It is such an amazing experience for our youth to see so many other young people excited about their faith and about being in service to the world,” he said.
The theme of the five-day event was “Live Love(d).” Each day featured a mass event in the AT&T Center in San Antonio, and hundreds of concerts, events and Bible study groups were featured in the convention center.
Young people attending the gathering from Westchester County included residents in Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Tuckahoe and Scarsdale.
Kate Porter, the church’s youth minister and a chaperone at the event, said that the gathering was a good experience for both youth and adults alike that were in attendance.
“I was happy to bring our youth to San Antonio,” she said. “They explored what it means to live as a loved child of god and to live god’s love in the world.”
