Next weekend, the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club, Ben’s Barn and the Broken Bow Brewery will sponsor the “Zero-K Road Race," where challengers - 21 and over - will see “who can cover the non distance in the fastest time.”

The proceeds will all go to benefit the family of 12-year-old Tuckahoe resident Jenna Velez, which incurred overwhelming medical expenses while courageously battling Amyoplasgia Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenitia, a very rare ailment.

Jenna was diagnosed with this ailment when she was 8-days-old, when the muscles in her legs did not develop in utero. She has had nine surgeries in an attempt to fix her knees and feet so she can walk with leg braces with moderate comfort.

According to the family’s GoFundMe page for Jenna, she suffered complications during her last two surgeries last year, and was bed ridden for four months. Those interested in helping Jenna’s cause that can’t attend the race can do so on the fundraising page. As of Wednesday, they had raised $345 of their stated $5,000 goal.

For three hours on Saturday, Sept. 24, Broken Bow will host the event, where for $25, participants get a souvenir runner’s bib, pint of original craft beer, pasta, entertainment and “a great sense of accomplishment int he aid of a great cause; and priceless bragging rights.”

The first ever Zero-K Road Race will “kickoff” 2 p.m. at the Broken Bow Brewery at 173 Marbedale Road. Those who require more information can contact Lion David Zimmerman at liondavidz@gmail.com.
