Top Tuckahoe Elementary Talent To Perform At Citi Field Monday

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Some of Tuckahoe’s youngest and most talented singers are set to make their debut on a national stage next week, as more than 100 William E. Cottle Elementary School students prepare to sing the National Anthem before the New York Mets square off against the Toronto Blue Jays at Citi Field.

On Monday, under the direction of music teachers Rachel Axelrod and Keiha Kim, 115 students will take the trek to Queens to serenade the crowd with a performance to kick off the game.

It was a lengthy audition process, with Axelrod sending a clip to the team earlier this year as part of the New York Mets annual school group search. They were then chosen and their performance is set for Monday night.

Prior to the performance, the school was asked to sell a select number of tickets to Monday’s game. Despite being asked for just 200 sales, the community purchased nearly 1,000 tickets.

“I am so proud of our students and entire music staff,” William E. Cottle Principal George Albano stated. “We were asked to sell a minimum of 200 tickets, and when all was said and done, the Cottle community sold over 850 tickets for this wonderful event.”

The Mets will take on the Blue Jays at 7 p.m. on Monday at Citi Field in Queens. The game will air on SportsNet New York.
