BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- "Team Chapel – Arts" ran the recent New York Road Runners Half- Marathon in New York City to raise awareness for the art and drama programs of The Chapel School.
The team consisted of five Chapel School and Village Lutheran Church, and Concordia College community members, who served as ambassadors of the arts.
The team had a goal of $8,750 and raised more than $10,000 to support and strengthen the art and drama programs of The Chapel School.
The excitement and sense of accomplishment the runners experience is inspiring” said Kim Zwisdak, The Chapel School Development Office project manager. “We are very thankful for their commitment and dedication,” she said.
“It was a fantastic incentive to be a part Team Chapel Arts to actually make my first half-marathon happen." Team Chapel Arts member Diane Hernandez said. "The race through some of the most iconic parts of New York City made training in the brutal 2015 winter that never ends totally worth it.”
“My family came down to the finish line to cheer me on right before I hit mile 13.1" she said. "I was so grateful to be able to raise money for Chapel and achieve a personal goal at the same time.”
After the race, team member Elaine Strommen said, “I felt so thrilled at the finish line!”
The Rev. Robert Hartwell, team coach and senior pastor of the church and school, helped form the charity run several years ago.
Team Chapel runs in the New York City full marathon to raise money for scholarships and Team Chapel Arts runs in the half-marathon in support of The Chapel School Art Programs.
